You’ll need:

  • 1 cup unsalted macadamia nuts
  • A couple of pinches of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of oil of your choice

Start by heating the macadamia nuts to soften them enough to grind. All you need to do is place them in a skillet over medium heat, and turn them over constantly until they are evenly browned on all sides. Their fragrance should fill the room by the time they’re ready.

Once your nuts are browned, pour them into a food processor. Add the salt, along with your preferred oil. Macadamia nut oil and coconut oil both work well, but you can use any high quality vegetable oil if you have it on hand. Pulse the food processor, scraping down the sides between every few pulses. Continue processing until the mixture reaches your desired consistency. A great thing about making your own nut butter is that you can make it as smooth or as creamy as you like. You can also add your own mix-ins, such as vanilla extract, honey or cinnamon, if desired.

Remove the nut butter from the food processor and transfer it to a jar. You can store it in the refrigerator for 2 or 3 weeks.
