Meet Scott – the Big Kahuna (aka “Da Big Boss”)

The Big Kahuna

The Big Kahuna

People often ask us who comes up with all the delicious recipes and ideas for our Hawaii’s Local Buzz products, and the answer is Scott.
People also ask us who had the inspiration and vision to purchase Paradise Meadows Orchard & Bee Farm, home of Hawaii’s Local Buzz, and the answer is Scott.

In fact, when people ask us who leads the charge, keeps the bees, makes the cookies, processes and roasts the coffee, invents and builds equipment, repairs the farm equipment, builds the buildings, oversees the finances, and pretty much anything else you can think of, the answer is almost always Scott. Scott is an amazing entrepreneur with “mad skillz”, as the kids say, and without him, there would be no Paradise Meadows and no Hawaii’s Local Buzz.

Scott was born in a small town in southeast central Texas, a long time ago. This is the second time in his life that Scott has lived in Hawaii. In 1977, Scott moved to Hawaii for the first time and began his culinary adventures by founding several great restaurants, including Texas Barbecue House and Jack Rabbit Pizza. Returning to the mainland to bring his son closer to ailing grandparents in 1984, Scott invented a well-known kid’s play table called Table Toys (a table for playing with Lego’s®) and built a multi-million dollar company around that invention. His efforts with Table Toys earned him recognition as Inc. Magazine’s Entrepreneur of the Year for the southwest region in 1993. That company sold to another toy company in NYC and Scott (reluctantly) lived there for a brief period.

Scott just couldn’t bear to stay away from Hawaii, however, returning to Oahu in early 1997, and he hasn’t looked back since. In 2004 he led the charge to purchase Paradise Meadows, and moved the family from the windward side of Oahu to the Big Island in 2006. By 2007, Hawaii’s Local Buzz was born and, under his leadership, grew from a company with a few varieties of honey to a full line of delicious coffee, macadamia nuts, chocolate, honey and cookies – and all of the recipes for those delicious treats were developed and perfected by Scott himself (well, except for the honey – the bees are responsible for those recipes).

As you can imagine, Scott is almost ridiculously busy, but if you visit Paradise Meadows you may have the opportunity to meet him. He is a man who inspires others to be the very best they can be, and who is dedicated to bringing a smile to every face he sees.
