Nut and gluten allergies

We’ve┬ánoticed lately that we origins of macadamia nutsare getting quite a number of calls and email inquiries wondering if we process any nuts other than macadamia nuts. For someone with a specific tree nut or peanut allergy, it’s really important to know whether or not our products could be contaminated by exposure to other nuts.

The great news is that we do all of our own processing, and we only have macadamia nuts in our processing kitchen here on the Big Island of Hawaii. None of our products have any other nuts in them, and we don’t bring in any other nuts (including peanuts) at all, ever. We don’t even use peanut oil or other nut oils in any of our products.

We also don’t use eggs in any of our products — something else that can be a common allergy. Our shortbread cookies are made without eggs, and none of our macadamia nuts or chocolates have eggs in them either.

Gluten is another allergen that we are asked about, and our macadamia nuts and chocolate candies do not have gluten in them, but they are processed in the same kitchen where we make our shortbread cookies, so there is a possibility for cross contamination. Someone who is gluten sensitive will most likely be fine with our macadamia nut and chocolate products, but someone with a severe gluten allergy, or who has Celiac’s disease, should stay away from those products to be on the safe side.

If you have any questions about allergens, or would just like to know more about how we make our products, please feel free to drop us a line. You can find out “contact us” form here.
